ON PLACES, MEMORIES AND HOMES
(2015)

I have lived in different places,

I have memories of them all.

I have had less than a handful of homes.

Inhabiting spaces with the wish to make them become a home is not an easy project. Numerous times I have failed in the endeavour. Home is not the place we occupy. Home is a feeling that gets affected by its atmosphere, being limited by circumstances we cannot choose. The place we live in affects us by the continuous exchange between the context and ourselves. Home is part of us, the area where we can be truthful and the most intimate space we can have.

I decided to compile the places I have been living in during my life. Once I had them gathered, I had to dialogue with each of them, converting that specific location into what I felt represented our shared story. The collection happened by confronting the buildings with the camera and revisiting and standing before them to take an honest portrait of their architecture. I achieved certain neutrality having similar captures of the places. This created a surface ready to be transformed by the recollected memories from the periods spent in each location. Bits of feelings, experiences, people, fears and discoveries are now presented as works that mirror the mutation happening when one moves into an impartial physical place and the moment leaving that location.

The images are bits and pieces of how I remember my time spent in these houses.
